Some courses that prepare students for commercial diving careers involve underwater welding, underwater burning, and air and mixed gas surface supplied diving.

You will need to take a fitness test before starting the course for commercial diving careers. The physical fitness test involves being able to tread water for at least 10 minutes and being able to swim at least 400 meters. You need to be a citizen, have a high school diploma or GED, and be at least 18 years old.

After finishing the course, there are many career options that you could consider. For example, you may work with a company near where you live to perform maintenance on underwater structures. You may work with local law enforcement when cases arise that involve scuba diving to look for evidence that may be related to cases.

Some who have received certification as commercial scuba divers work on ships that have sunk and need to be taken to a port. They will work as a team to cut, weld, and demolish sections of a ship with the goal of towing it to an appropriate location.
